As I watched Yanis Varoufakis, now ex Minister of Finance of Greece, I pondered on how differently I felt in comparison to my apathetic response to Cameron, Miliband and Clegg's efforts a couple of months ago. A person that says what he thinks and sticks to it is a rare thing, let alone a politician that does so. I couldn't understand why he was different, I imagined it was the passionate Greek heritage, a sun drenched people, steeped in olive oil and hospitality, and then I did some research. No, an academic, thrust into politics at a particular time, he hadn't yet learnt to lie too well and didn't have the required temperament for empty, vacuous, patronising rhetoric. What a shame he's gone, I shall miss the irreverence.
