I have travelled all over Britain, looking at how people live and work together. I spent six months during 2024 researching the people living in Salford, concentrating on the area nearest the museum, Pendleton, around the shopping centre. All that time was spent drawing, painting and thinking about them and their lives. I travelled around the area on foot as well as by car. This is a car friendly part of Britain full of dual carriageways and sprawling estates. People lived within blocks of flats, socialising in pubs on the corners of the estates. These pubs were full of locals, interested in their lives and those of their families and friends and I was treated as an outsider as I sat and observed. Nevertheless, overtime I was able to find pockets of interest and I drew those people and painted them. I had very many conversations that were fascinating. Some people had just left prison. Some were affluent professionals that had lived in the area for many generations. I chose groups of people that had lived there for many years as they had the most interesting stories. The work was exhibited in Salford Museum, some of it is still for sale, contact me to purchase.
